VISITORS

Staff member talking to group of visitors.

UTRGV is planning Fall 2021 around your safetysuccess, and experience. After all, this is the semester we’ve been waiting for. Because a year-plus of lockdowns, physical distancing, and virtual everything has made Fall 2021 one of the most anticipated semesters in our institution’s history.

Safety First. Always.

To us, being on campus means everything. But getting here — and staying safe — means we all need to do our part.

Knowing that much can happen in the coming weeks and months, the University will not hesitate to adjust our operations should guidance from local, state, and federal health officials warrant such changes.

Below you’ll find the most important things you can do to protect yourself and our campus community from COVID-19.

Campus Protocols

Each time you plan to visit any UTRGV campus or facility, make sure to first ask yourself the COVID-19 Daily Self-Screening Questions.

  • Have you been in close contact (within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period)?
  • Do you have a measured temperature greater than 100.0°F, or feelings of fever or chills?
  • Do you have a new or worsening cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, sore throat, muscle pain or body aches, nausea, vomiting, headache, loss of taste or smell, or diarrhea?

If you answer “Yes” to any of the questions, please DO NOT proceed with your planned visit.
If you’d like to request a free phone screening for a COVID-19 test, please fill out this form.

Please note that there are currently no local, state, or national COVID-19 health mandates that enable UTRGV to require the wearing of face coverings or vaccinations within our campus community. And while UTRGV is not currently enforcing social distancing, the University continues to strongly encourage the use of face coverings, especially in settings when distancing is not possible. Because of these limitations, we all must consider the consequences of our actions and how each choice affects ourselves, our families, friends, and colleagues.

For more on what UTRGV is currently enforcing and/or recommending to promote your safety, visit the Protocols page.

Classroom and Building Safety

We realize your concerns regarding the safety of classrooms and other indoor public spaces as we return to full-capacity seating and building occupancy. That’s why we strongly encourage everyone who is in a classroom or indoor public space to wear a face covering at all times. We also encourage everyone who uses shared materials and equipment to further mitigate their risk of potential exposure by using the hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes that are provided in each public space.
