Mission

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley ROTC is a premier leadership program that partners with both University and Community organizations to promote the values and ethics that develop students into leaders of the United States Army. Leadership development courses build teamwork and enhance individual character. Join us in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Reserves Officers' Training Corps and its commitment to build America’s future leaders.

What is Army ROTC?

Army ROTC is a program of leadership and military skills training. It prepares Vaqueros ROTC Program students for officer responsibilities in the active Army, Army Reserves, or Army National Guard following graduation or after deferment to attend advanced civilian schooling. Army ROTC at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley complements campus life for those students who are serious about becoming officers. Many social functions are held that make each military science class a small family. Many cadets become roommates upon moving out of the dormitories. Lifelong friendships are made over the course of the four year program.

How Can Army ROTC Benefit Me?

Army ROTC allows you to quickly gain the confidence and self-discipline necessary to excel in your studies at UTRGV. You will acquire leadership skills and the experience sought by employers of college graduates. You will earn the honor of serving your country as an officer, full-time on active duty or part-time as you pursue your civilian career. We also have two, three, and four year scholarships available.

What is the Obligation?

Introductory courses let you take a look at officer opportunities without obligation. Once you accept a scholarship or enter the final two years, you will make a commitment to serve as an officer on active or reserve duty.
