Dean's Welcome
Welcome to the College of Liberal Arts at UTRGV!
As the university’s largest and most diverse college, we are proud to serve nearly 7,000 students with the support of more than 300 full-time faculty members across 12 departments. With over 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, the College of Liberal Arts is a vibrant community where students and faculty collaborate to reach new levels of excellence in teaching, research, and professional innovation.
Through our Humanities and Social Science-based disciplines, we offer students a broad, rigorous, well-rounded education that prepares them to become thoughtful, informed, and engaged members of society. Through the humanities and social sciences, we explore the human experience in all its complexity: how the past shapes the present, how we interpret both, and how we imagine the future. We study how individuals and communities think, create, decide, organize, and express themselves—through literature, language, performance, and institutional, organizational, and social structures.
Students in the College of Liberal Arts develop essential skills: communicating effectively across media and audiences, analyzing and organizing information, embracing diverse perspectives with inclusivity and critical thought, and distinguishing fact from opinion. We encourage students to ask hard questions about human behavior and society and to contribute meaningfully to creating policies rooted in knowledge and ethical responsibility.
We are also committed to UTRGV’s B3 mission—Bilingual, Bicultural, and Biliterate—and strive to be the leading college in B3 initiatives. Our programs intentionally weave B3 principles throughout the curriculum, preparing students to thrive in an interconnected and multicultural world.
In a time of rapid social, cultural, and technological change, the College of Liberal Arts remains future-focused. We build on our strong foundations to create new interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary programs that reflect the evolving needs of our students and communities. Here, students find the resources and mentorship to make informed personal and professional choices that lead to success for themselves and our local, national, and global communities.
Welcome to a college where exploration, inquiry, and leadership shape the future.
