Biography

Dr. Luis Gomez is a Lecturer at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Department of Civil Engineering. He is a Civil Engineer (P.E.-Peru and EIT-USA). He also holds a Ph.D. minor in Geography and a GIS graduate certificate from Oregon State University (OSU). His research includes adaptation to climate variability. He has also participated as a reviewer of research articles. In addition to his research and teaching experience, Dr. Gomez has 15+ years of experience in the engineering industry. His expertise includes participation in 100+ engineering projects holding various positions in them.

Research Interests

  • Planning and management of water systems and construction for adaptation to climate variability
  • Watershed hydrology and pollution of water resources using remote sensing and geographic information systems.
  • Hydroinformatics and Computational fluid dynamics for the design of hydraulic structures
  • Virtual design and construction applied to hydraulic structures
