Clinical Medical Assistant Program


Would you like to prepare for a rewarding career in healthcare? Clinical Medical Assistants (CMAs) are critical members of healthcare teams in a variety of medical settings.

This program will train you to assist physicians in a variety of clinical functions and responsibilities, including how to prepare patients for examination and treatment, taking and documenting vital signs, assisting with routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, and proper use and administration of medications, as well as understanding professional behavior in the workplace and ethics of healthcare.

This program is comprised of 140 hours of classroom lecture and hands-on labs, and a clinical internship* opportunity of 160 hours at a local healthcare provider.

Upon successful completion of this program, students would be eligible to take the following national certification exams:

  • National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) examination
  • National Workforce Career Association (NWCA) Clinical Medical Assistant (CMAC) exam

*Internships provide valuable hands-on experience in the field, enabling you to master the content learned through practice, increase your professional network, and gain work experience to be competitive in the job market.

To be eligible for the clinical internship, participants must successfully complete the 140-hour program, submit to a thorough background check, drug screening, and meet additional requirements. Internship is unpaid.

Individuals who are eager to start a career in the healthcare industry and would like to work in a variety of medical settings, such as physician offices, clinics, or outpatient facilities.


Note: PEWD program participants should be 18 years or older.

Recommended level of education: High School diploma or GED/high school equivalency.

Program participants must be 18 years of age or older.

This program meets the necessary requirements for participants to take the following examinations*.

*Eligibility to take national exams include having a High School diploma or GED/high school equivalency or being scheduled to earn a high school diploma or GED within the next 12 months. Please review all criteria in the respective websites.
