UTeach Program

Biology majors seeking teacher certification are required to complete the prescribed degree plan, complete a workshop to prepare for the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES), the teacher certification exam, and successfully pass the Life Sciences Benchmark exam. To enroll in the workshop, and for the state schedule of teacher certification exams for the current academic year, contact Cindy Martinez Wedig, Ph.D. at cindy.wedig@utrgv.edu.

The degree plan in Life Sciences leading to teacher certification for grades 8-12 has been revised and approved by THECB (Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board). Biology majors seeking teacher certification are encouraged to discuss their career plans with a faculty advisor, and seek advice with respect to curriculum. You can fill the form on-line and bring it to your advisor.
