Message from the Director
Welcome to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Border Health Office web page. There are so many things to be excited about now as we make history moving forward with a new institution and medical school to improve the health and wellbeing of communities in the Rio Grande Valley. The Border Health Office has laid a solid foundation to enjoy healthier lives by working passionately to address the burden of diabetes and its complications on families throughout the state of Texas since 1995.
Our programs concentrate on promoting healthy lifestyles for children, particularly in school settings, and prevention strategies that identify those with pre‐diabetes or those who have a high risk to develop the disease. By helping identify children who may be at risk to develop type 2 diabetes, our programs provide a starting point for health promotion and disease prevention and complements concerted efforts to prevent or delay future health problems.
It takes passion, commitment, and dedication to work in public health. But it is a labor of love when you want to make a difference and enable people to enjoy healthy and fulfilled lives. Thank you for taking the time to visit the Border Health Office website and I encourage you to visit with us!
