Apply To UTRGV
- Apply through ApplyTexas.org and indicate that you already have a bachelor’s degree and do not wish to pursue a second bachelor's degree when the application prompts you for it under the school-required questions section.
- Submit confirmation of bachelor's degree earned.
- Graduates from U.S. institutions:
- Students that have already graduated: Submit official college transcript indicating degree earned directly from the college/university to UTRGV.
- Students pending degree completion: Request a letter indicating that you have applied for graduation and are on track to meet graduation requirements in addition to the official college transcript.
- It is not necessary to send UT Brownsville/UTPA/UTRGV transcripts.
- Graduates from foreign institutions:
- Send your transcript to get evaluated by The Evaluation Company (formerly SPANTRAN), Foreign Credentials Service of America (FCSA), World Education Services (WES), or International Education Evaluation (IEE) and have the evaluation sent to UTRGV.
- Graduates from U.S. institutions:
- Submit $50 application fee through the online portal.
- Submit proof of English language proficiency by one of the following companies: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), DUOLINGO English Test, IELTS, or Pearson PTE Academic unless you qualify for an exemption.
Priority Deadlines
- Summer Sessions: April 1
- Fall Semester: May 1
- Spring Semester: November 1
Applications completed after the priority deadline will still be considered for the application term, but processing times may be longer.
I'm Admitted, What's Next?
Follow these steps to ensure a great start to UTRGV!
Go to myaccount.utrgv.edu to activate your account, if needed. Check ASSIST and your UTRGV email often – all official UTRGV messages go to your UTRGV email account.
If you are below 22 years of age, submit proof of bacterial meningitis vaccination or exemption. The vaccine must be given within the 5 years prior to the start of the term you applied for. The document must contain your full name, date of birth, vaccine name, the date the vaccine was given, and signature/stamp from the physician/facility that administered the vaccine. The immunization record can be submitted online through Document Central or emailed to application@utrgv.edu. Affidavits must be submitted in person or by mail.
Professional Improvement students will be granted a waiver for TSI. No TSI scores are needed.
Transfer coursework is not evaluated for Professional Improvement students. If the class you wish to enroll in has prerequisite restrictions, contact the appropriate academic department to get permission to enroll in the class. Check out this guide if you experience other issues with registration.
If you submitted a college transcript to complete your application before your degree was awarded, send an updated official college transcript once the degree has been granted and posted to your academic record. College Transcript must be sent directly from the college/university to UTRGV.
Non-Degree seeking students who wish to pursue an additional baccalaureate degree at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley must submit a Request for Second Degree Classification and any pending official college transcripts to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions before the census date of the application term. Documents submitted after the application term’s census date to change the status from non-degree seeking to second-degree seeking will be processed for the next available term.
