Dual Credit Program
Welcome to UTRGV's Dual Credit Program, where high school students can accelerate their academic journey by earning college credits while still completing their high school requirements. This innovative program provides a unique opportunity to engage in university-level coursework, gain valuable academic experience, and build a strong foundation for future college and career success.
With flexible course options and dedicated support from UTRGV faculty, students can seamlessly integrate college studies into their high school experience and take a significant step towards achieving their educational goals.
How to Apply
The days and times you choose for your Dual Credit classes should conform to your schedule (i.e., high school classes, employment, extracurricular activities, and availability of transportation). You are encouraged not to overextend yourself and to allow plenty of time for study. As a participant in the Dual Credit program, it is your responsibility to confirm that you are enrolled in the correct courses. If you plan to take Advanced Placement exams or community college courses, you should consider the credits you may potentially receive to avoid duplicating courses. The first step is to meet with your high school counselor to discuss options.
Credit hours taken at UTRGV will transfer to all other public institutions of higher learning in Texas; however, you should determine if they will help you fulfill the requirements for your particular degree plan. For private and out-of-state public colleges and universities, we recommend that you connect with the potential institution to verify their policies.
As a Dual Credit student:
- You are eligible to enroll in core curriculum courses only (excludes any developmental, kinesiology, health, or honors courses).
- You are eligible to enroll in two (2) courses (maximum of 8 credit hours per semester).
- You are eligible to enroll in 1000 and 2000-level courses (excludes 3000 and 4000-level courses).
- You are eligible to enroll in courses during the Fall, Spring, or Summer terms (excludes Mini-term).
- You must earn grades of C or better in each class to continue in the Program.
- If you earn a grade less than a C you will have one chance to submit an appeal to try and be reinstated. The appeal consists of a personal statement explaining what led to the bad grade and what you will do to correct it, and a letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor.
