These are conferences hosted by the Writing Center in the past.
The Writing Center hosted the 2018 National Conference on Peer Tutoring in Writing on South Padre Island.
The National Conference on Peer Tutoring in Writing (NCPTW) promotes the teaching of writing through collaborative learning. The annual NCPTW conference offers peer tutors the opportunity to contribute in professional and scholarly ways to the larger writing center community by sharing and presenting research at national and international conferences.
The theme of “migration,” in all senses, including the movement of populations both human and non- human, voluntary or involuntary, and with an eye to environmental sustainability, invited peer tutors and scholars alike to not only consider their own experiences and materialities of writing, but to explore the reciprocal effects of writers, objects, and spaces.
The Writing Center hosted the 2017 South Central Writing Centers Association conference on the UTRGV Edinburg campus.
This conference theme, “Writing (Centers/Centered) Institutional Identifications,” invited participants to investigate the various locations of writing centers – disciplinary, theoretical, physical. In doing so, writing center stakeholders considered the structures, funding sources, accesses and accessibilities, and ranges of experiences that contribute to writing centers’ places and spaces within their institutions and local environs.
