History
The Albert L. Jeffers Theatre on the Edinburg Campus, is named in honor of Albert L. Jeffers in recognition of his support and wonderful generosity to The University of Texas-Pan American in 2001. The theatre manifests the confidence and trust of the Jeffers family in the goals of The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley and in the academic and cultural welfare of all its students now and in the future.
Mr. Jeffers, an attorney specializing in intellectual property law, was well known nationally and internationally. He served on the board of trustees of Evansville University in Evansville, Indiana for over 35 years.
Driven by a passionate belief in the power of education, he created several charitable remainder unitrusts naming universities as beneficiaries. At the time of his gift to The University of Texas-Pan American Foundation in the form of a charitable reminder unitrust, his donation was the largest single gift from an individual ever received by the foundation. The funds from the generous gift will be used for full scholarships to The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and will help many future generations of college students follow their dreams.
