Second Year and Beyond Advising Guide

With a solid foundation in understanding and navigating UTRGV, your second year and beyond will present you with academic adventures that you’ve only dreamed of! Together, you and your second year and beyond academic advisors will continue to track your road to graduation while exploring a few experiential learning opportunities along the way!

So, how do you make this happen? Simple. In your second year and beyond, you’ll have the option (for exceptions you may consult the mandatory advising list) to meet with an academic advisor. Should you decide to schedule an advising session, you’ll have a number of distinct services to select from as you plan the rest of your academic career at UTRGV.

Academic Planning

As the traditional and most common advising session, you’ll collaborate with your advisor to review your academic record, identify courses for the following semester, address any questions you may have about the term and track your progress towards graduation.

Experiential Learning Opportunities

As a University for the 21st Century, UTRGV has a number of experiential learning opportunities awaiting you! Are you interested in study aboard? Engaging in undergraduate research? Looking for an internship? How about volunteering in a community project? Or even enrolling in a service-learning course? During this advising session, you’ll have an opportunity to review how these outstanding educational options may be woven into your degree pathway and connect with the right office to make these experiences happen!

Graduation Checkout

By invitation only, your advising session will connect you with your academic advisor to finalize your last two terms at UTRGV! You’ll confirm your final courses, address any potential concerns, walk through the graduation process and leave with the confidence that your graduation count down has begun!

Interested? You are welcome to walk-in or schedule a session with us! You may contact us in person, via phone, via email or via EAB Navigate360.
