Advising Guides

As an admitted undergraduate student, you will partner with us to build your overall understanding of UTRGV and learn how to be successful at the University of the 21st Century. As you consider your pathway, you’ll have a safe, respectful and welcoming learning environment to discover your interests, identify your skills and talents and guide you to make well-informed decisions about your education! Along the way, you’ll work with us to discover new academic adventures and craft an educational experience unique to you!

TSI Advising

The Academic Advising Center supports students who are working toward meeting the requirements of the Texas Success Initiative (TSI). In partnering with a TSI advisor, you will learn more about your TSI standing and how it impacts your educational journey at UTRGV. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about your options for meeting TSI requirements.

First Year Advising Guide

Your first year at UTRGV is full of new experiences, great opportunities and amazing connections! As you begin your first year, our goal is to provide you a solid foundation in understanding and navigating academic policies and procedures, increase your knowledge of your degree pathway, provide you academic coaching to meet your goals and connect you to helpful resources. Along the way, you’ll have an assigned advisor dedicated to you and your first year peers!

Second Year and Beyond Advising Guide

With a solid foundation in understanding and navigating UTRGV, your second year and beyond will present you with academic adventures that you’ve only dreamed of! Together, you and your assigned academic advisor will continue to track your road to graduation while exploring a few experiential learning opportunities along the way!

Returning From Academic Suspension Advising Guide

When your academics fall below your personal and institutional standards, the Academic Coaching for Excellence (ACE) Program is a required academic intervention that offers you an opportunity to reflect upon your success, develop new learning strategies and craft new academic habits that enhance your success at UTRGV. With your ACE Coach guiding you along the way, you’ll find a new level of commitment and renew your motivation as you work towards graduation!

New Transfer Student Advising Guide

As you prepare for your transition to UTRGV, the Academic Advising Center is here to guide you as you take your education to the next level! As an admitted and incoming transfer student, we invite you to schedule an optional advising session with us. You’ll partner with an advisor to review your approved transfer course work, understand your program of study, identify courses for the upcoming term, connect to academic resources, and address your questions and ideas about your education. By the end of your session, you’ll know where you stand with your educational goals and be set to register for the upcoming term!
