About STDOI

The South Texas Diabetes and Obesity Institute was established on October 13, 2014, to be a focus for world-class biomedical research programs at UTRGV.  With diverse research efforts in the areas of diabetes, obesity, heart disease, fatty liver disease, psychiatric diseases, and infectious diseases of border health relevance, such as Chagas disease and tuberculosis, the STDOI is working to address the most critical public health problems in the Rio Grande Valley Region.  The institute has state-of-the-art laboratories and genetic capabilities, a 12,000-processor computer cluster dedicated to genetic analysis, and a biorepository containing samples collected from over 10,000 participants in studies led by STDOI investigators.
