How it Works

A HIPAA compliant secure video conferencing platform will be used to make the hard work of psychotherapy convenient & confidential. Once an appointment is scheduled, information for the platform will be emailed to the student.

To Schedule an Appointment, please call (956) 665-3306 or
email Valerie.Rivera@utrgv.edu

Safe, Secure & Easy

Telehealth uses an easy-to-use videoconferencing platform that meets all HIPAA and federal security guidelines. Students need access to a private space, a device with a web camera, mic and speakers, and a reliable Internet connection.

For consultation services and additional information, please contact:

Valerie M. Rivera, LCSW-S
Clinical Social Worker
Email: Valerie.Rivera@utrgv.edu
Phone: (956) 665-3306

Note: Student Confidentiality and Privacy are ensured.

SOM Telecounseling LifeWorks (Student Support Program)

The UTRGV School of Medicine is offering a service to support your mental health and wellbeing, called My Student Support Program (My SSP): If you are finding it difficult adjusting, feeling overwhelmed with your studies, having difficulty coping with recent events, or have something else occupying your thoughts and need to speak with someone, My SSP can help!

Connect with a My SSP counselor to receive support:

  • 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Connect to My SSP app from anywhere via mobile chat, telephone, and video
  • Select your preferred language*
  • Confidentially: Your participation and information remain confidential and not shared with professors, family, etc. – unless you decide to tell someone on your own.
  • At no cost to you!

The program is fully integrated with existing on-campus resources, confidential within the limits of the law, and covered by UTRGV.
