A Message from the President
August 31, 2015
Good morning,
Today, August 31, is "The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Day," as proclaimed by our four counties and more than 25 cities across the Rio Grande Valley.
Today, we welcome more than 28,000 students to UTRGV. More than 4,000 are freshmen. As we move forward, UTRGV is going to change significantly as an institution, but our priorities remain firm. Our focus is student success, educational opportunities, medical education, and research on issues affecting this region.
Today, we celebrate the long journey we have experienced together over the past fourteen months. All our achievements to date never could have been met without the commitment and hard work of dedicated and talented people on all of our campuses.
By working together, we will build UTRGV - the first public university in Texas in the 21st century - into the university for the entire Rio Grande Valley, and beyond.
Today also kicks off our Best Week Ever. Please check our Best Week Ever site for a list of the campus, community and athletics events planned to commemorate our first week as UTRGV.
I am most grateful and appreciative for all you have done. Welcome to the UTRGV family.
Guy Bailey
President
