Dalcroze Workshop

OBJECTIVE
Designed for practicing teachers, musicians, and university scholars, the UTRGV Summer Dalcroze is 5 days of intensive study with a Master Teaching Artist from the American Eurhythmics Society. The week will cover the main elements of the Dalcroze philosophy (Eurhythmics, Rhythmic Solfege, Improvisation, and Plastique Animée. It is open to anyone who desires to strengthen their musical teaching and playing through the philosophy of Dalcroze. This week can also serve as part of the certification process through the American Eurhythmics Society. Graduate credit (3 hours) is possible for current UTRGV graduate students.
HOUSING AND MEALS
Overnight room accommodations will not be available through the university. There are several local hotels near the Brownsville campus. Meals are also not included in the price of the program. Participants are encouraged to bring water, snacks and/or cash to use vending machines located in the School of Music. There will be a lunch break during the day and the final day will be a group dinner at a local restaurant.
COST
Tuition for UTRGV Summer Dalcroze $500. Tuition can be paid by check/money order made out to UTRGV School of Music. This fee covers the cost of the MTA and facility use for the week.
NOTE: The COVID-19 situation may evolve or change. We will make every effort to create an inspirational experience for all participants. However, circumstances and guidelines may change and the Music Camp will adjust as needed. Alternative plans and schedules may be necessary due to situations beyond our control. Refunds will be offered if the event needs to be cancelled.
FACULTY
Steven Robbins has been an elementary general music teacher in the San Antonio/Austin area of Texas for the past 18 years. He is the past vice president of the American Eurhythmics Society and holds the designation of master teaching artist. In addition to being a music educator, Steven has also utilized eurythmics in therapeutic settings with adults as a form of somatic movement therapy.
Dr. Jason Jones is an assistant professor of Music Education at UTRGV. He is currently a Vice-President of Convention for the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association. He earned his Ph.D. from the Eastman School of Music, Master of Music from UTSA, Master of Education from Emory & Henry College, and Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Music and French from Emory & Henry College. He was an elementary music teacher for 8 years in San Antonio, TX and Webster, NY. For more information: www.jasondjones.net
