About Us

UTRGV School of Music drum line

The School of Music offers undergraduate degrees in music in the areas of performance and education (teacher certification). The graduate program has three concentrations in music: music education, performance, and ethnomusicology. For majors and students who are non-majors there are opportunities to participate in Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Choir, Guitar Ensemble, Jazz Band, Mariachi, Salsa Latin Band, and many other ensembles. These ensembles are offered each semester and perform on and off campus.

The School of Music Faculty are all highly accomplished musicians who strive to provide an excellent educational experience. They set high standards and expectations to help students reach their goals and to be competitive in the Rio Grande Valley and beyond. We expect students to do their best, set their goals high, and embrace challenges and new ideas.
