Join the Center

About Membership

The Center for Vector-Borne, Zoonotic, and Emerging Diseases welcomes faculty, staff, external professionals, and students to participate in advancing research, education, and outreach. Our membership is guided by transparency, inclusivity, and active engagement. 


Membership Types

Full Membership

  • Who: UTRGV faculty and staff.
  • Privileges: Full voting rights and eligibility for the Executive Committee.
  • Requirements: Must remain employed by UTRGV. Membership ends upon retirement, termination, or removal.

External Membership

  • Who: Part-time, retired, or external professionals.
  • Privileges: Non-voting; invited to join the External Advisory Committee.
  • Duration: Permanent; renewal every five years.
  • Transition: Eligible to become full members if they join UTRGV full-time.

Student Membership

  • Who: Nominated by a full member; approved by majority vote of full members.
  • Privileges: Participate in activities and meetings, list affiliation on resumes/applications; no voting rights.
  • Duration: Permanent unless removed.

Member Responsibilities

Members are expected to:

  • Contribute to management, planning, funding, and recruiting.
  • Attend regular meetings.
  • Support external grant efforts.
  • Acknowledge the center in publications and presentations.

Joining Guidelines

  • Sponsorship by a current member is required each fall semester.
  • Submit a CV and optionally provide a statement on mutual benefits.
  • Up to four new full members may be approved annually.
