Committee Meetings for AY 2026-2027

The Graduate and Undergraduate Advisory Groups will convene separately in the 2026-2027 academic year to review curricular changes. Additional meetings may be scheduled in March and April as necessary, focusing exclusively on new programs requiring external approval and policy revisions. All proposals for new majors, certificates, minors, concentrations, and modalities/locations require approval from the Program Development and Analysis Team. For further details regarding new program development, please refer to the Office of Institutional Accreditation, Program Development and Analysis.

Proposal Review Process and Timeline for AY 2026-2027

Curriculum change proposals move through several review stages, including OCIA staff, the department chair, the dean, the college committee, institutional advisory groups, and the Office of the Provost. Depending on the complexity of the changes and the number of proposals already in the queue, the full process may take up to three months. OCIA will not begin reviewing a proposal until all requirements for a complete proposal have been satisfied.

Proposals are to be initiated in Curriculum Strategy before review and approval by department chairs, college committees, and deans. Curriculum Managers can assist proposers by providing guidance on the proposal process, ensuring all necessary documentation is included, and offering feedback on proposal completeness and clarity. For assistance, email curriculum@utrgv.edu.

Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis. All proposals must have dean approval and clear evidence of faculty governance to be placed on a meeting agenda (see Meeting Dates table for dean approval deadlines).

The submission, review, and approval timeline commences with the initiation of a proposal by faculty and proceeds through the following review and approval steps:

  1. Initiate the proposal in Curriculum Strategy.
  2. The College acknowledges receipt of the proposal and confirms that it may advance to OCIA for compliance and completeness review.
  3. The OCIA staff conducts an initial review for completeness and clarity. This review typically requires up to two weeks; however, additional time may be necessary for complex changes. Upon completion, proposals are either advanced to the Department Chair or returned to the submitter for revisions.
  4. The Department Chair reviews and approves the proposal. Where applicable, the Chair will attach supporting documentation reflecting departmental committee approval. Reviews at this stage should generally be completed within one week of receipt.
  5. The College Committee, if required, conducts its review and grants approval. The Committee Chair attaches any required departmental committee documentation. The College Committee should schedule reviews to ensure the dean has adequate time for further evaluation and, if appropriate, approval prior to the scheduled committee meeting.
  6. The College Dean reviews and approves the proposal. Approval is required at least one week before the relevant committee meeting and must occur early enough to provide OCIA staff with sufficient time to include the proposal on the agenda.
  7. OCIA staff conduct a final review to schedule the proposal for the meeting agenda.
  8. The Graduate and Undergraduate Advisory Groups review and approve the proposal.
  9. The Provost conducts the final review and grants approval.
