He is the director of the MARS (Multiple Autonomous Robot Systems) research lab within the Computer Science department. His work has been published in top-tier robotics conferences and journals, including IEEE ICRA, IEEE IROS, and Autonomous Robots. As an educator, he is deeply committed to fostering engaging and effective learning experiences for his students. He is particularly interested in problem-based learning (PBL), a pedagogical approach that challenges students to solve real-world problems. He also emphasizes inclusive teaching practices that encourage students from all backgrounds and groups.
He holds his B.S in Computer Science and Technology from Hubei University and an M.E. in Computer Engineering from Guangdong University of Technology, both in China. He also earned an MS in Computer Engineering from Aalborg University in Denmark. He completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of New Mexico in the USA. He received the UTRGV Faculty Seed Research Award in 2022 and his research in developing epidemiology-inspired robot swarms was nominated by UTRGV as one of only two representatives for the ORAU Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards program in 2023.
