Criminal Justice Internship Course
These instructions only apply to the following course:
Field Internship - CRIJ 4364 (Edinburg Campus)

This class requires that each student: Complete 120 hours of internship work, Submit weekly work logs, Obtain one supervisor’s evaluation, Write a critic paper about their internship agency and Take an exit exam that covers policing, courts, corrections, and criminology.
To apply for any available internships, you must complete a “Handshake” profile (found in myUTRGV) that includes a resume (reviewed by the Career Center). Handshake, offered by the UTRGV Career Center, lists all available vacancies for jobs or internships. This includes on-campus (student employment) and off-campus jobs and internships.
If you do need assistance with a resume review or would like to explore your career interests, You schedule an appointment through Handshake. Please see the steps below.
- Log in Handshake
- Click on the “Career Center” tab in the top right corner.
- Select “Appointments”
- Click “Schedule a New Appointment”
- Select your classification (Freshman, Senior, etc.) and choose the appropriate appointment type suited to your career interest/needs.
- Choose an available date and time. Create your appointment!
If you plan to do your internship for credit, you must begin your search as soon as possible. . It is recommended for students to apply 3-6 months prior to the internship start date/time. If you plan to apply to local, state, or federal government positions, there are often lengthy background checks required before you can start your internship.

Once you have registered for Field Internship - CRIJ 4364 (Edinburg Campus) follow these steps.
- Complete your profile in Handshake, with resume uploaded.
- Apply for one of the internships available in Handshake OR you may obtain an appropriate internship on your own if it is approved by the instructor, Denise Deleon (denise.deleon01@utrgv.edu)
- You must attend the first class, after that class meetings will be flexible.
- Students that do not have an internship by the census date may be dropped from this course.
