ASLI Admissions Application

Undergraduate Admissions Application

The ASLI Program application is submitted digitally. Once you click on the “Click Here to Begin Submission” link, it will take you to a web form.

The web form will ask that you:

  1. Enter personal data
  2. Submit an ASL Video via a “public” or “untitled” You Tube link answering the following prompt: “Why I Want an Undergraduate Degree in ASLI” (3-5 minutes in length)
  3. Acknowledge you have read and understood the requirements and policies of the ASLI program (see admission, progression, and graduation requirements below)

Additionally, you should have three recommendation forms submitted on your behalf. See recommendation form link. Recommendation forms must be from someone that can comment on your academic qualifications or work experience.

APPLICATION DEADLINES: 

It is typically best to start major level courses during the fall semester as they scaffold. Below are the application dates based on fall enrollment. To be considered for spring enrollment, please email the program coordinator at brian.cheslik@utrgv.edu.

Early Bird (for fall enrollment): March 31st.

Last Call (for fall enrollment): August 1st.

Please note:

  • All applicants must apply (applytexas.org by UTRGV admission deadline) and be accepted to UTRGV prior to applying to the American Sign Language Interpretation (ASLI) Program.
  • All required coursework must be on the UTRGV Academic Record/Degree Works in order to be considered eligible to apply and be accepted into the ASLI Program.

Attention Transfer Students:

  • Transfer students must also apply (applytexas.org by UTRGV admission deadline) and be accepted to UTRGV prior to applying to the American Sign Language Interpretation (ASLI) Program.
  • All required coursework must be on the UTRGV Academic Record/Degree Works in order to be considered eligible to apply and be accepted into the ASLI Program.
  • Additionally, transfer students must transfer all courses taken at other institutions and have a course evaluation of those courses prior to applying to the ASLI Program. Call 1-844-ATUTRGV or e-mail admissions@utrgv.edu for questions regarding UTRGV admission requirements.

 

Admission, Progression, and Graduation Requirements:

Admission Requirements:

  1. Students are eligible to apply to the program when they have completed 45 semester credit hours towards the degree. The 45 semester credit hours must include the following courses and must be completed with a grade of ‘C’ or better to be officially admitted to the program:
    1. ASLI 1310
    2. ASLI 1320
    3. ASLI 2310
  2. Students must complete 60 hours towards the degree to be officially admitted to the program.
  3. The cumulative GPA for the 60 hours completed towards the degree must be 2.8. The GPA will be calculated using all institutional and transfer coursework applicable to the degree.
  4. ASLI 3310 may be in progress at the time of application but must be completed with a grade of ‘C’ or better to be officially admitted to the program.

Graduation Requirements:

  1. Students must complete all ASLI major courses with a grade of ‘C ‘or better.
  2. Students must complete all concentration courses with a grade of ‘C’ or better.
