I study the affects of stress on vocal babbling development, utilizing the Green-rumped Parrotlet (Forpus passerinus) as a model species. I am also interested in vocalization development as a whole, and conservation biology.

My thesis focuses on the locomotor performance and foraging strategies of two species of wintering shorebirds, specifically sanderlings and a color-banded population of piping plovers, at the Rio Grande delta in South Texas. I utilize high-speed video to capture bird movement while acquiring the location of banded individuals using radio telemetry and transect surveys.

My current thesis project is an investigation of the function of bioacoustic duet displays in the mating system of urban red-crowned amazons, an endangered parrot species. My career interests are in animal cognition and self-perception. As an animal behavior scientist my aim is to facilitate human coexistence with our wild neighbors through open dialogs among scientific experts, community members and policymakers.

I am an undergraduate student who assists graduate students in the field performing ATV surveys, radio telemetry, and beach surveys at Boca Chica near the mouth of the Rio Grande. Since 2016 I have dabbled in working with Sharp-tailed Grouse in Montana and North Dakota, shorebirds in South Texas, and Northern Saw-whet Owls in Maryland.
