Ismael DeLeon, founder and president of Alpha & Omega Cleaning Services, a local leader in the janitorial service industry, packaged his business utilizing UTRGV PTAC services, and found that opportunity came looking for him.
Alpha & Omega Cleaning Services offers complete commercial office cleaning and building maintenance for corporate and small businesses. Utilizing the latest building maintenance equipment, office cleaning techniques and commercial janitorial supplies, they continuously meet the highest of cleanliness and building appearance standards.
He started his business with his wife, Dora, in July 2009 and wanted to grow his business opportunities. “I knew I wanted to do business with governmental entities, and but needed to get certain certifications,” said DeLeon. “I heard that PTAC could help me and I contacted them.”
DeLeon met with Rey Soto, now a PTAC Business Advisor, “Mr. DeLeon did not waste any time,” recalls Soto. “He came in eager and we got his business registered with the Central Contractors Registry (CCR) and looked into other possibilities.”
In no time, DeLeon’s business was listed on sites that highlighted certified socially disadvantaged businesses. “The CCR, Historically Underutilized Business certification, and the Centralized Master Builders List are all tools that help you do business with local, state, and federal governmental entities,” explains Hector Landez, program director, “Normally, governmental purchasing agents use these resources to locate potential vendors; however some businesses get opportunities with corporate clients.”
Having prepared himself, DeLeon felt extremely lucky when FedEx, the multimillion dollar overnight delivery company, invited him to take advantage of a bidding opportunity.
“The company’s procurement director saw that I was listed, certified and registered,” recalls DeLeon, “and as part of their diversity-in-business programs, they invited me to bid on their janitorial services contract for the Valley area.” DeLeon went on to win that contract, and several others.
Based on the work he did and utilizing PTAC services, Alpha & Omega Cleaning Services now employees 10-12 independent contractors and has been awarded contracts totaling $160,000 a year.
“We are committed to creating and maintaining positive and lasting relationships, between our clients and staff based on excellence, integrity, and reliability,” said a proud DeLeon.
“In fact we just finished meeting with the FedEx representatives in the Corpus Christi area. We are excited that we can grow into new markets. PTAC continues to help me, and I encourage others to seek them out.
