Dear UTRGV Community,
I write today to announce that I will be stepping down as Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at the conclusion of the summer semester. After months of careful consideration, I have determined that my family’s needs require more time and presence than I can responsibly give in this post.
It has been an honor to serve as UTRGV’s chief academic officer since June 2023. During this time, I have been privileged to work alongside some of the smartest, most capable, and talented individuals I have met in a fifty-year career. Our faculty is truly exceptional, and together we have advanced academic excellence across the university. Our students and their families are remarkable for their determination to complete their education, knowing that a degree will transform their lives.
Over the coming months, I will remain focused on completing key projects and ensuring that our academic priorities continue to receive the attention they deserve. This period will be critical for maintaining momentum and preparing for a smooth leadership transition. My plan is to remain with the School of Social Work faculty, where I will resume my teaching, research, and completing a book that’s been on my mind for years.
We have plenty of time for farewells, and I look forward to supporting the university in new ways as we continue to build on our shared successes. Thank you for your commitment to UTRGV and for the opportunity to collaborate with you on advancing our mission.
