READMISSION AFTER MILITARY SERVICE: Service members or reservists who have a break in attendance due to service requirements will be readmitted to the institution and academic program enrolled prior to the required service. No additional application or documentation is required. Please email admissions@utrgv.edu with your enrollment for the semester.

Types of Returning Students

  • Previously studied at UTPA or UTRGV
  • On track to earn first bachelor's degree – even if attended another college or university in the meantime.
  • Students that enrolled at UTB-TSC must apply as Transfer students if they have no enrollment with UTPA or UTRGV.

  • Graduated from UTPA or UTRGV with a bachelor’s degree
  • Interested in pursuing a second bachelor’s degree in a different major

As per the Texas Education Code, you have the option for an "Academic Fresh Start," excluding credits or grades earned 10 or more years before the semester you seek enrollment. Conditions include:
  • Available only once.
  • Texas residency is required.
  • Submission of all official transcripts, regardless of prior Academic Fresh Start.
  • Exclusion of undergraduate coursework from GPA if taken 10+ years before the request.
  • Excluded coursework remains on record for audit purposes but doesn't count toward prerequisites, or graduation, and may impact eligibility for NCAA, Veterans Administration, or financial aid.
  • Existing degree plans considering excluded coursework become invalid.
  • The granted Academic Fresh Start is irreversible.
For admission consideration under this statute, complete the Request for Academic Fresh Start form.
