Undergraduate Programs
The Research Experience for Undergraduates program – supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) – enhances the academic and professional opportunities for undergraduates pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), benefiting underrepresented students at this Hispanic Serving Institution. The program supports a cohort of 12 students during the summer and includes activities such as group lunch meetings, scheduled field trips, and professional development opportunities. We are seeking funding to host this program in Summer 2027.
Supported by the Research Corporation for Science Advancement (RCSA), our new Undergraduate Space Science Experience (USSE) workshop supports long-term goals for students along the US-Mexico border by expanding their involvement in and knowledge of STEM fields. The two-week program grants participants the unique opportunity to hear from, meet and interact with experts in cutting edge areas of Space Science, regardless of prior research experience.
Applications for Summer 2026 are now being accepted!
Graduate Programs
We are crafting a Professional Master's program that weaves together space technology, commercialization, and entrepreneurship with courses from the Colleges of Sciences, Engineering, and Business. In addition, to ensure that students are prepared for the PhD program, we will offer certain students the opportunity to enroll in the Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Physics (MSIS-PHYS) program to strengthen their foundational knowledge of physics.
Doctoral Programs
We are creating a PhD-level track in the space sciences and space-technology development, modeled after the successful joint graduate program in Space Physics at UT San Antonio and SwRI. With a focus on various aspects of the space sciences, our specialized courses will include hybrid offerings, thus ensuring access to all students at STSSI and its partner universities. We encourage interdisciplinary thesis projects that weave together a broad spectrum of space-science research.
