Meet the Vaquero

Mascot Team

The UTRGV Vaquero mascot embodies the spirit, strength, and heritage of the Rio Grande Valley through a costume rich in regional symbolism and student-designed elements.

Cheer Team

Cheer Team

The Cheer Team promotes school spirit through engaging performance entertainment during school and athletic teams events. It also represents the university at UCA College Cheer Competitions.

The Dance Team promotes school spirit through engaging performance entertainment during school and athletic teams events and represents the university at UDA College Dance Competitions.

Drill Team

Drill Team

Drill teams have a rich history deeply rooted in Texas culture and tradition. These dance teams perform precision routines during halftime that have gained popularity due to their high-kick lines, showcasing intricate formation changes and visual effects on the football field. The uniforms feature distinctive elements like cowboy boots and hats, emphasizing the cultural identity of our region.
