Captain Auditions:Will be held in-person immediately following team member auditions from 1:00p-5:00p. Must meet minimum 1 year membership requirement. |

Dance Team Tryouts FAQ
A mandatory Candidate Application must be completed before the audition.
Be prepared to upload the following:
- Publicity Release
- UREC Facility Waiver
- Headshot (PNG or JPG format)
- Letter of Recommendation from former director or coach
- A Physical (up-to-date and completed by a physician)
- UTRGV Acceptance Letter (new students only)
- Academic Transcript (transfer students only)
ROUND 1: VIDEO AUDITION
VIDEO SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- Submit a current electronic copy of your physical (completed by a physician) to the Head Coach (sel.gomez@utrgv.edu).
- Submit a YouTube link via email to the Head Coach (sel.gomez@utrgv.edu) and cc the Asst. Dance Coach (olympia.deleon01@utrgv.edu)
- Introduction Video (45–60 seconds)
- Technique (in order) and Choreography Video
AUDITION ATTIRE REQUIREMENTS FOR VIDEOS AND IN-PERSON AUDITIONS
Females

Hair for videos should be slicked back in a bun or low ponytail

Hair for in-person auditions should be styled down and curled
-
Black sports bra, crop top, or fitted tank/halter, and black fitted dance shorts (half shoes/footies or nude jazz shoes may be worn)

Performance makeup and lashes should be applied (natural makeup is preferred with false lashes and a natural lip)

Tattoos must be covered with professional-grade makeup (no band aids)

No jewelry or piercings of any kind (stud earrings are acceptable)

MANDATORY: All-black dancewear
Males

Clean-cut hairstyle and clean shaven (no facial hair)

Wear a fitted T-shirt or tank top, shorts or jazz pants, and black or nude jazz shoes

No warm-ups or baggy clothing (slim cut joggers are acceptable)

Tattoos must be covered with professional-grade makeup (no band aids)

VIDEO SECTION 1: INTRODUCTION VIDEO (45–60 seconds)

State your name, hometown, major, classification, and why you want to be part of the program

All content must be submitted in the order listed tuner "REQUIREMENTS."
VIDEO SECTION 3: DANCE COMBINATION REQUIREMENTS
3 combos— minimum 30 seconds, maximum 45 seconds each | Jazz • Pom • Hip Hop
(previous choreography is allowed)
OPTIONAL SOLO
- 1 solo of any style or genre
- Maximum is 3 minutes — studio or competition footage (within 6 months)
ROUND 2: IN-PERSON AUDITION
- Selected dancers will receive an email that includes a link to the audition choreography and an invitation by the Head Coach to attend in-person auditions.
- Must provide 2 email references in the online registration form and be paid in full.
- The Head Coach will email your references directly. Recommendation letters from current or former dance directors/coaches must be emailed to the Head Coach (sel.gomez@utrgv.edu) and cc the Asst. Dance Coach (olympia.deleon01@utrgv.edu) by the given deadline.
- Coach/Director questionnaire must be completed by both references by the given deadline.
Although all uniforms, practice wear, and equipment is provided by the university, there is a non-refundable $30 Audition Fee which covers the audition process.

Males: All-black fitted dancewear (joggers are acceptable)
Male Hair: Styled out of the face and clean shaven
Auditions are closed to the public. Only candidates, coaches, and adjudicators are allowed in the facility.
Dance Team results will be posted on social media pages no later than the end of the audition day.
