Financial Aid
UTRGV offers various financial aid options such as grants and loans to help make your education affordable. Apply early and plan ahead to get the financial assistance you need. Submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is easy and fast at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Please include UTRGV on the list of schools you will send your application to by adding our FAFSA School Code 003599. Visit the Financial Aid Office webpage for detailed information on financial aid and priority deadlines.
Graduate applicants or students interested in receiving financial aid assistance must have:
- Clear admittance into the graduate program
- Must be enrolled for at least 6 graduate hours or more per semester
*Note: International students and students taking courses for professional improvement, certifications and post bac students are not eligible for federal or state based financial aid.

- Military and Veteran Success Center (For student veterans, guardsmen, reservist and dependents of veterans)
- Federal TEACH Grant for Graduate Students
- Mexican Tuition Waiver Program (For Mexican Nationals Only)
Scholarships
UTRGV has several scholarship opportunities that can be applied for through ONE scholarship application. The UTRGV Scholarship becomes available in the Fall semester and must be submitted by January of each year. These scholarships are highly competitive so be sure to apply early! Assistantships
Assistantships give students the opportunity to work on campus (up to 20-hour workweeks) and are based on college/institutional demands and funds. Three types of assistantships are offered and include teaching, research and graduate. The MS in Sociology program offers valuable teaching opportunities to our graduate students. Every semester, we select four students who are in good standing to teach online or face-to-face courses. Graduate student instructors are paid and benefit from the skills and experience obtained through solo teaching. To learn more about this teaching assistantship, call 956-665-3321.
