Learn about Faculty Recruitment

As The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) evolves into a research university, it is committed to building a highly qualified faculty in support of academic excellence. Your service as a Search Committee member and/or as an Equal Opportunity Liaison (EOL) is instrumental to this commitment.

For the UTRGV Faculty Recruitment process, a manual has been developed to assist our departments and search committee members. The manual provides guidance to ensure a fair and effective process to follow as you recruit colleagues to serve our student population.

For more information on developing your search committee see the UTRGV Faculty Recruitment Manual.

OTIXEO Role in Search Process

The Office of Title IX & Equal Opportunity (OTIXEO) plays a vital role in the search process. Here are the following responsibilities of OTIXEO:

  • Coordinates the recruitment process to ensure consistency with University policies, employment laws and regulations.
  • Reviews recruitment plans including search committee composition, job descriptions and advertisement venues.
  • Certifies the applicant pools to ensure compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity in the search process
  • Provides guidance and training on EO/AA and employment laws.
  • Coordinates UTRGV’s annual Affirmative Action plan.
  • Processes and investigates complaints of Title VII and Title IX discrimination and harassment.

Faculty Search Training Requirements

The Office of Faculty Affairs will provide training in best practices for recruiting and hiring faculty in collaboration with the Office of Title IX & Equal Opportunity.

All faculty serving on search committees are required to complete mandatory training in order to participate in the faculty search process. Training is required to be completed every two (2) years with the EOLs completing an instructor-led training as well.
