Protective Orders
If you are seeking to apply for a Protective Order, it is considered a best practice to include the following information, if available:
- Any threatening or harassing messages via email, text or social media.
- Screenshot photos of multiple call logs.
- Any photos of bodily injuries, such as bruises, cuts, scrapes, bites, asphyxiation marks.
- Any inappropriate or threatening voicemails.
- Copies of any police reports (or case numbers), divorce decree, Child Protective Services documents or Adult Protective Services documents.
- A picture ID or state issued driver’s license.
- Addresses of locations you need protected (home, work, school.)
- Address of the respondent, if available.
Victims have the right to seek assistance from UTRGV Police Department with respect to enforcement of orders of protection, "no-contact" orders, protective orders, or similar lawful orders issued by a criminal, civil, or tribal court, or as issued by UTRGV.

The University Police Victim Services Specialist can assist crime victims by helping them obtain crime victim services that can mitigate the consequences of being a crime victim. The Victim Services Specialist from the date a crime is reported can help crime victims obtain necessary healthcare or counseling. After the initial crime report, the Victim Services Specialist can assist crime victims understand the criminal prosecution process. The services of the Victim Services Specialist are available to UTRGV students, faculty, staff and visitors.
