Multi-functional instrument Cryogen-free Cryocooler-based Physical Property Measurement System EverCool–II (Quantum Design, USA) (PPMS):

The Quantum Design PPMS® EverCool-II® is an exciting cryogen-free enhancement to the industry-leading Physical Property Measurement System (PPMS) product line and represents a unique concept in laboratory equipment with an open architecture.

Temperature Control Operation: To control the temperature, a vacuum pump draws helium into the annular region where heaters warm the gas to the correct temperature. This design reduces thermal gradients and increases system flexibility by making the sample chamber a controllable environment. For example, the sealed sample chamber may hold a high vacuum without the need for additional inserts. This is significant for the design of the Heat Capacity and Helium-3 capabilities. The temperature control system offers a temperature range of 1.9–1000 K accommodates many different types of measurements.

Magnetic field control and sample mounting: The PPMS® EverCool-II® is configured up to a 9 T longitudinal magnet. The low noise, bipolar power supply allows continuous charging through zero magnetic fields with current compensation and over-voltage protection. The sample-mounting system is the most interesting and unique feature of the instrument. At the bottom of the sample, the chamber is a 12-pin connector pre-wired to the system electronics. This connector allows plugging in a removable sample insert or sampling “puck” and offers convenient access to electrical leads for application hardware and electronics. This connector provides the foundation for all of the PPMS measurement inserts.

Magnetic field control and sample mounting


AC transport measurement and DC resistivity: The AC transport measurement system (ACT) option is a precision current source and voltage detector that supports four different types of automated, electrical transport measurements: AC resistivity, five-wire Hall effect, I-V curve, and critical current. A PPMS integrated with ACT provides fast data acquisition and the convenience of measuring up to two samples on a single sample mount with the Current Range: 10 mA to 2 A, Sensitivity: 1 nV @ 1 kHz, and Frequency Range: 1 Hz to 1 kHz. The DC resistivity option provides four independent channels that can be used for van der Pauw and four-wire resistance measurements (up to three samples in a single sequence) with the current range of 5nA - 5mA. Different sample-mounting structures for the rotators are available for each type of measurement. These platforms hold the sample parallel or perpendicular to the field. In addition, the system also takes advantage of the horizontal and vertical rotators to obtain information about angular dependence.

Heat Capacity: The Heat Capacity measurement system performs fully automated relaxation heat capacity measurements. Each measurement is analyzed using a sophisticated two-tau model™ to accurately simulate the effect of the heat flow between the microcalorimeter platform and the sample (tau2) as well as the heat flow between the platform and puck stage (tau1). The Heat Capacity measurement system includes a high-vacuum system.

Thermal conductivity: The thermal conductivity can be measured over the temperature range of 1.9 K to 300 K using the longitudinal heat flow method. The fiber will be fixed between a thermal bath, known as the cold foot, and a heater. Two thermometers are located in the middle and epoxy is used to attach each device to the fiber through highly conductive copper leads. Electrical measurements of the thermistors will be taken using the four-probe measurement technique.

The JSM-7100F, Thermal Field Emission SEM, is the ideal platform for demanding analytical applications as well as those requiring high resolution and ease of use. The JSM-7001F has a large, 5-axis, fully eucentric, motorized, automated specimen stage, a one-action specimen exchange airlock, small probe diameter even at large probe current and low voltage, and expandability with ideal geometry for EDS, WDS, EBSP, and CL. The specimen chamber handles specimens up to 200mm in diameter. 

A new Windows® XP-based computer interface allows for unprecedented ease of operation including function buttons that switch operation modes quickly and easily. Up to four live images can be simultaneously viewed, including signal mixing, and a single scan can record and store all four images at once. 
The JSM-7100F SEM also supports full integration of EDS, WDS, e-beam lithography, and an image database. Stage automation is standard with a 5-axis computer control of X, Y, Z Tilt, and eucentric rotation. 

 Low Vacuum Operation 

The JSM-7001FLV offers all the high-resolution performance of a field emission SEM with the ability to image non conductive samples at moderate to high kV and higher beam current. EDS, backscatter imaging, EBSD, and other analytical techniques can be performed without the need to coat the sample with metal or carbon for conductivity. This is especially useful for applications where: the sample can not be altered, further testing is to be done, or the sample is to be placed back into the production line. 

Atomic Force Microscope SOLVER Nano NT-MDT


The Atomic Force Microscope is a multi-purpose scanning device with nano-metric resolution. The Solver Nano is equipped with a professional 100 micron CL (closed loop XYZ) piezo tube scanner with low noise capacitance sensors. Capacitance sensors in comparison with strain gauge and optical sensors have lower noise and higher speed in the feedback signal. The CL scanner is controlled by a professional workstation and software. The Solver Nano AFM has the following features:

The Q600 provides simultaneous measurement of weight change (TGA) and true differential heat flow (DSC) on the same sample from ambient to 1,500 ˚C.
