About

The department of Informatics and Engineering Systems offers programs at the undergraduate and graduate level. Some of our programs, such as BS in Cyber Security, BS in Engineering Technology, and Master of Science in Informatics, are signature programs offered on Brownsville campus. The department accommodates multiple campuses with HYBRID delivery of classes in Cyber Security and Informatics (Hybrid Mode: Face-to-Face Classes in Brownsville and OSYNC for Others with Exams in Brownsville & Edinburg).

  • Cyber-crime damages will cost the world $6 trillion annually by 2021, up from $3 trillion just a year ago. This massive amount of money represents the greatest transfer of economic wealth in history (2017 Cybersecurity Ventures).
  • October is the National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM). Its goal is to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity across our Nation, ensuring that all Americans have the resources they need to be safer and more secure online.​
  • The median annual wage for Information Security Analyst was $103,590 in May 2020. Check the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for the latest numbers.
  • Employment of cyber security related jobs, such as Information Security Analyst, is projected to grow 33 percent from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations. Demand for information security analysts is expected to be very high, as these analysts will be needed to create innovative solutions to prevent hackers from stealing critical information or causing problems for computer networks.
