Brian Dean, MBA, MPH
Interim Executive Vice President for Health Affairs
Biography
Brian Dean, MBA, MPH, was appointed Interim Executive Vice President for Health Affairs on June 2, 2025. He brings more than 25 years of distinguished leadership across major health systems nationwide, with deep expertise in expanding clinical infrastructure, aligning academic and healthcare delivery operations, and addressing community health needs. In this role, he is leading the development of UTRGV’s Division of Health Affairs, creating a cohesive and integrated framework that connects education, research, and patient care across our health-focused schools and colleges. He is also guiding the strategic growth of clinical platforms, with a focus on strengthening infrastructure and ensuring care delivery models are responsive to both local communities and beyond.
Additionally, Dean serves as Executive Vice President for Health Affairs at UT Health Houston and strategic advisor to the Office of Health Affairs at The University of Texas System. He is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the University Health Consortium, and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He earned his Bachelor of Health Science and Master of Public Health in Health Administration from the University of Kentucky and holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Miami.
Prior to joining UTRGV, Dean spent many years in leadership roles at Memorial Hermann Health System, where he served as Chief Executive Officer of the Texas Medical Center campus, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Service Lines, and Chief Financial Officer. Earlier in his career, he held senior executive positions at Sutter Health in California, Jackson Health System and University Community Health in Florida, and the University of Kentucky’s Chandler Hospital.
