BMED Application Instructions

Dear Student,

Thank you for your interest in the BMED Program for Fall 2022! The Health and Biomedical Sciences Department has opened admissions. If interested in applying, please follow instructions below:

  1. Apply to UTRGV; check the Pre-BMED box on the ApplyTexas application, to specify interest in the BMED program. ( If you did not, it’s OK; you can still submit the secondary application to BMED program, if accepted to UTRGV).
  2. Complete the separate, BMED-specific application. (recommended, so we really know that you are interested in joining our program). BMED Online Application Form. (Please note even if HS GPA is 3.0/4.0 or below, but you have college credits (12 or more) and a college GPA > 3.0, we would  like you to apply.)
  3. Submit the following documents with your application if you have not yet applied or been accepted to UTRGV. (if already accepted to UTRGV, you do not need to submit transcripts):

    • Unofficial High School Transcript with GPA/Rank/Percentile. If you have not yet completed 12th grade, submit your unofficial 6th semester or 7th semester transcript.
    • Unofficial College Transcript (required if you have college credits)
    • SAT and/or ACT score(s) (test optional, submit if available)
    • Completed Student Information Survey. BMED Student Information Survey
  4. Transfer students from TSC and STC can apply to the BMED program. We have articulations agreements with these community colleges that allow 2+2 completion of BS in BMED degree, if admitted to the BMED program. See roadmap. BS IHS students, and Transfer students from other universities or colleges may also apply to the BMED program. They will be considered for admission, and advised regarding previous college course credits individually, if accepted.

Note: All documents must be submitted for your application to be reviewed by Admissions committee, if not yet accepted to UTRGV.

Students will be contacted regarding the Admissions committee's decision and, if accepted, you will receive further instructions for open houses, orientation and registration.

Whether you indicated interest in the BMED program (by checking the pre-BMED box in the Apply Texas application or not), you are NOT admitted into the BMED program until you receive a letter of admission from the Department.

Priority application deadline is March 1st, 2022.

The BS in Biomedical Sciences, located primarily on the Brownsville campus has been approved to expand to the Edinburg campus and offer all classes including labs to incoming freshmen and sophomores, since Fall 2021!

BMED admissions closes June 30, 2022.

You can contact us at  healthandbiomedicalsciences@utrgv.edu or (956) 882-7383 if you have any questions.
