Coached Study Hours
Coached Study Hours (CSHRs) are mandatory in freshman and sophomore level BMED courses. The Instructional Facilitator (IF) and CSHR-leaders discuss and review class materials covered during BMED lectures. This weekly study exercise enhances the student's ability to assimilate class content and promotes team-based learning. During the CSHRs, an activity or an assignment linked to the BMED courses may be provided to the students to ensure that they comprehend the week's topics. The IF/CSHR- leaders' main goal is to support and guide BMED students in the program's academic rigors.
The IF, in conjunction with BMED-professors, reviews and organizes the weekly CSHR materials. The CSHR leaders are BMED students who have taken and excelled in the class topic they will be covering during the CSHRs. Each CSHR leader undergoes extensive pedagogic training by the University’s Learning Center. As part of their weekly duties, each CSH-leader holds tutoring hours in the University’s learning center.
