B2BMED Trainee: Mateo Joya Ayala Institution: STC/UTRGV Research Mentor: Dr. Blanca I. Restrepo Research Project: Tuberculosis in Mexico
The B2BMED program is an engaging experience and gives a lot of resources that can help you improve your abilities, not only in the biomedical research field but also in your personal and academic life. The professionalism workshops and other seminars give you helpful information and keep you up to date on the new research that is being published. For me, the program gave me an opportunity to explore new possibilities in the lab. It allows me to explore new ideas and ways to do research, and right now, I am working on a completely different project, learning about a new program to manage data and do data analyses. The impact of the B2BMED program on my future career in biomedical science research is considerable because even though I was working in a lab before the program and doing research, the experiences and resources offered by the program gave me an advantage compared to other biomedical science students. I believe that the possibility to develop a project and work with your mentor to improve and polish that idea, week after week, gives the students in the program a hands-on idea of what is the research world. For anyone interested in applying to the B2BMED program right now, I suggest that you don't wait one more second. The benefits and experiences included in the program are unique and would give you a good picture of how the research world works.
