Declaring Your Minor in GWSP

Officially declaring your minor in GWSP is relatively easy!

Please log-in with your UTRGV credentials and follow the directions after clicking HERE.

Requirements for Minor (New Degree Plan)

A – MINOR REQUIREMENTS – 18 HOURS (6 advanced)

  1. Gender and Women’s Studies Core – 3 hours 
    • GWSP 1301 Introduction to Gender, Women's and Sexuality Studies
  2. Gender and Women’s Studies Electives – 15 hours (6 advanced)

A – MINOR REQUIREMENTS – 18 HOURS (6 advanced)

  1. Gender and Women’s Studies Core – 3 hours (3 advanced)
    • PHIL 3360 Feminist Theories 
  2. Gender and Women’s Studies Electives – 15 hours (6 advanced)

Student Learning Outcomes

SLO 1. Critical analysis: Students will critically analyze histories and theories of feminist, gender, and sexuality studies. 

SLO 2. Theories and methodologies: Students will identify and explain core concepts, theories, and methodologies of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies to critique sexism, gender inequality, transphobia, and other forms of structural oppression.

SLO 3. Specialized topics: Students will demonstrate knowledge of specialized topics in the field that may include feminist movements; global sexualities; intersectional, transnational and decolonial theories; masculinity studies; queer and transgender studies, Latina and women of color feminisms, gender-based violence; and gender and human rights; among others.

SLO 4.  Agency and civic engagement: Students will develop a sense of feminist agency to effect social change through civic engagement at UTRGV as well as in communities in the Texas-Mexico borderlands, the U.S., and globally
