Degree Plans Using the Minor in GWSP

The GWSP Minor is well-suited to be combined with almost any major to give your degree a gender and women's studies as well multidisciplinary focus.

The Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies (BMS) provides students with the opportunity to enrich their education and career prospects by moving beyond a single area of concentration to acquire the critical-thinking and analytical skills employers are looking for in new college graduates. The BMS uses the Minor in GWSP to form unique degrees that you can only find in the School of Interdisciplinary Programs & Community Engagement.

About the Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies (BMS)

Housed in the College of Liberal Arts' School of Interdisciplinary Programs & Community Engagement, the BMS allows students to custom design a plan of study that brings together coursework from three disciplines.

Students completing the BMS program will be able to apply the knowledge and skills to contribute to society in meaningful ways and to expand their career and employment opportunities as a result of a multidisciplinary education. They can also continue their studies in a graduate degree or post-baccalaureate professional program being fully prepared with the analytical skills necessary to succeed within demanding and highly competitive fields.

In order to earn a BMS, students have to fulfill the requirements for three different minors of their choice in addition to the general education core and free electives.

The BMS Degree Plan consists of (1) 42 Credit Hours of the General Education Core, (2) 54 Credit Hours of the Major Requirement (three 18-hour minors, which can include ENST), and (3) 24 Credit Hours of Free Electives, six of which must be upper-division.

While the Minor in GWSP can be included in any BMS combination, it is included in two focused BMS programs: Social Justice & Community Engagement and Hospitality, Communities & Environments.

BMS in Social Justice & Community Engagement

A BMS degree in Social Justice & Community Engagement interweaves Gender and Women's Studies, Environmental Studies, and Mexican American Studies to cultivate interdisciplinary and holistic frameworks for analyzing social, political, cultural, economic, and environmental issues.

You can learn more by reading this announcement and visiting the BMS Homepage.
