Team Lead

A little bit about myself:

"In the future, I hope to go to medical school and become a psychiatrist, helping increase access to psychology-based healthcare in areas like the RGV.

I was originally inspired to join the CAL Project to gain new insight on AI and challenge my initial biases and assumptions about this technology. Through CAL research, I hope to deepen my knowledge of locust populations and further explore how food insecurity affects mental health. I am honored to serve my community by contributing to local research."

  • Major: Biology
  • Graduation Date: Expects to graduate in the spring of 2029.

A little bit about myself:

" I am currently a senior at UTRGV finishing up my bachelor's this upcoming spring of 2026. After doing research on some native species, I hope to pursue a career that focuses on the conservation of native/local species, especially the Rio Grande Valley's flora. I joined the CAL research team because my interest in local sustainability aligned with the lab's goals. The use of current technology seems like a unique perspective to look at local conservation and ecosystems that I can't wait to be a part of.
  • Major: Environmental Science
  • Graduation Date: Expects to graduate in the spring of 2026.

Ambassador of AI and Machine Learning

A little bit about myself:

"My career goals consist of developing advanced technological and biological research skills. I am looking to pursue a career in synthetic biology that integrates AI to create innovative solutions for genetics and biomaterials. I joined CAL to achieve these skills and open doors to opportunities that will one day allow me to contribute to advancements in combining AI and Biology. I am inspired by how today’s emerging technologies can advance sustainable agriculture and strengthen the health of our communities. By raising awareness and encouraging others to engage with agricultural innovation, I hope to inspire positive change that benefits both people and the environment.
  • Major: Biology
  • Graduation Date: Expects to graduate in the spring of 2028.

A little bit about myself:

"I am an undergraduate student here at UTRGV with aspirations for a career in conservation, focusing on ecological work both locally and nationally. I joined the CAL Research Program to be on the frontier of AI implementation in ecological monitoring. My goal is to deepen my connection with my community while actively researching the effects of invasive species on agriculture. Through this program, I am committed to developing proactive mitigation strategies that safeguard our critical food systems."

A little bit about myself:

"I am passionate about ecology, sustainability, and the role of technology in protecting natural systems. My career goal is to work in conservation and applied ecological research that supports both ecosystems and the communities that depend on them. I joined the CAL Research Program to help monitor invasive species and learn how AI and field-based ecology can improve agricultural resilience in the Rio Grande Valley. Through CAL, I hope to contribute meaningful work while gaining skills that strengthen my future in environmental science.

A little bit about myself:

"My long-term career goal is to work in agricultural biosecurity, focusing on invasive species monitoring and pest management, and eventually pursue a research and teaching career in academia with an emphasis on entomology and ecology. I joined the CAL project because I’m passionate about how insects shape ecosystems, agriculture, and community livelihoods. Being part of a project that protects local crops and supports the Rio Grande Valley community aligns with my goals and gives me meaningful real-world experience in my field."
