YouTube video: From Bottle to Beach: UTRGV’s Glass Waste Innovation
Discover how your recycled glass could be making a real difference! UTRGV researchers are part of a groundbreaking project turning everyday glass waste into a powerful tool for coastal protection and sustainable agriculture. Led by Dr. Julie Vanegas, the team is repurposing glass into sand to combat beach erosion, especially at South Padre Island. But that's not all – this recycled glass is also being tested as a soil substitute to grow crops like cilantro and peppers, tackling global food security challenges. Watch to learn how UTRGV’s innovative approach is transforming glass waste into solutions for the environment and agriculture!
