Math Prerequisites

The first math course in the degree plan is MATH 2413 Calculus I. However, depending on your incoming test scores and high school preparation, the math department may require you to start with an earlier course, for example MATH 1314 College Algebra or MATH 2412 Precalculus.

Computer Science Prerequisites

CSCI 1380 has a prerequisite of College Algebra or qualification for a higher level math class. If you qualify for Precalculus or Calculus I you can take CSCI 1380.

Prerequisites for Senior Design

To enroll in Senior Design I, students should have finished ELEE 3230 and ELEE 3435, and should have finished or be enrolled in at least 9 credit hours of 4000-level ELEE coursework.

Chemistry or Statics

Students may satisfy this requirement using any one of the following: CHEM 1311 General Chemistry, CHEM 1307 Chemistry for Engineers, or MECE 1303 Statics. The chemistry courses require high school chemistry, the Statics course has a prerequisite of PHYS 2401 and a corequisite of Calculus II. You do NOT need to take Chemistry lab.

Foreign Language Proficiency

Students must demonstrate knowledge of a foreign language prior to graduation. This can be done either by earning six college credits in one language, OR by passing a proficiency exam offered by the UTRGV Testing Center.

Creative Arts Core

Choose one of the following: ARTS 1301, 1303, or 1304; DANC 2323; ENGL 2314; FREN 2323; PHIL 1330; MUSI 1306, 1307, 1308, 1310, or 1313; THTF 1310 or 2366.

Social and Behavioral Sciences Core

Choose one of the following: ANTH 1324, 2302, or 2351; ENGL 2315; ECON 1301 or 2301; CRIJ 1301 or 1307; PSYC 2301; SOCI 1301.

Language & Culture Elective

Choose one of the following: ENGL 2313, 2321, 2326, 2331, 2341, 2387, or 2388; ANTH 1351; MASC 2301; MUSI 1309.
Note: Do NOT choose a PHIL course for this elective, because PHIL is required in another part of the degree plan.
