Artist Statement

personal logoArt has been a huge influence in my life, as a child I can remember always having paper and a box of crayons on hand. It has always been a means of self-expression through the ups and downs of life, creating art was and still is my escape. As a teen, I learned about communication design, and I was instantly drawn to it. Creating brand identities, icons, and working with editorial designs bring me immense joy from start to finish. My design and art throughout the years has kept a particular form, whether in a sketchbook, a drawing tablet, or behind a laptop, my art has vibrant colors, clean line work, but minimalistic. I will never back down from a challenge, and I do not shy away from completing scraping one idea and starting from scratch if I am not satisfied with the product. As an artist and designer, I would only hope that through my art, I can influence my viewers and let my art send a message of social injustices, along with social commentary on my work. Identifying as a minority in various communities, I feel as though it is my right to call out and respond to what is going on. Shine light on the broken systems and bring knowledge to those that are not educated on the subject through my designs. Showcasing these topics through art and design helps to inform those that are unaware to understand that we can create a difference in the world. My process of design is to practice nearly every day. I often look on the side of the road at billboards, logos, bumper stickers on cars, flyers and posters in stores, packaging design, book covers, for inspiration to influence and further help me in my practice of design work. I challenge myself by mimicking styles that I resonate with, and I pay close attention to what drew my eye to the design. With the help of my inspirations, my process is often sitting right behind my computer, figuring out the layout design, the typography which is my favorite part, and going through multiple art boards and digital sketches till I find suitable inspiration for what I am looking to create. This affords me the ability to then focus on a color pallet or multiple and finalize any details to bring my design to completion.
