The Center for Vector-Borne Disease is actively overseeing various aspects of Aedes surveillance sites in cooperation with the local health departments (LHDs) in Cameron, Hidalgo and Webb counties and local vector control programs using oviposition traps. Entering and maintaining the results of Aedes surveillance data and sharing the data through weekly reports with the system agency LHDs and vector control programs if IR is detected to determine the appropriate action.

The Department of State Health Services Border Surveillance expanded its' grant with UTRGV to continue providing surveillance in collaboration with local health departments (LHDs) including El Paso, Pecos, Hudspeth, Presidio, Brewster and Terrill counties and local vector control programs in the region using oviposition traps. The expansion includes the operation, monitoring, counting, and recording of ovitraps in use.
The expansion includes collecting mosquitos and rearing all the eggs to adulthood of the species identified in the border cities. Additionally, in conjunction with local health departments and local vector control programs, UTRGV provides educational and community outreach services to communities in the areas.
