The Center for Vector-Borne Disease held its first public seminar on September 29, 2021. Dr. Beatriz Tapia, UTRGV associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics and assistant dean of Faculty Development at the UTRGV School of Medicine, gave the inaugural presentation. The presentation topic was  Arboviruses in South Texas - Vulnerable Population. Below is the link if interested in viewing the recording.

Topic: Arboviruses in South Texas - Vulnerable Populations
Date: Sep 29, 2021 03:44 PM Central Time (US and Canada)

Dr. Erin Schuenzel presented a talk “From DNA to Diagnostics: Creating Molecular Diagnostics for Emerging Pathogens and Pests”.  This community seminar was developed to describe and explain the methodology of creating and using different types of DNA based molecular diagnostics, as well as identify the different viruses, bacteria, and insect pests monitored for in the South Texas border. With the testing for COVID in the news, this talk hopes to clarify some of the mystery of diagnostic testing.
