Compliance Hotline/Raising Questions and Concerns
Employees are encouraged to address compliance concerns through UTRGV’s normal administrative channels. If you have compliance related questions or wish to report suspected compliance violations of any kind:
- Talk to your supervisor,
- Contact the UTRGV Compliance Officer or Compliance Manager, or
- Call the Compliance Hotline (877-882-3999)
- EthicsPoint Online Reporting at utrgv.ethicspoint.com
The Compliance Hotline and EthicsPoint Online Reporting are available for situations where conventional channels are uncomfortable or otherwise inappropriate, or for times when you wish to raise a concern anonymously. The Hotline and EthicsPoint are operated by an outside company not affiliated with UTRGV and are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Your Hotline call will be taken by a trained professional who will ask you questions about your concern. Calls can be taken in English or in Spanish, made anonymously, and will not be traced. Reports you submit through EthicsPoint can be made anonymously, if preferred.
This policy will be followed in all compliance investigations:
- The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley encourages employees, students, visitors, vendors and members of the community to raise compliance related concerns and to report any suspected violations of law, regulations or policy.
- All reports will be investigated regardless of the reporting method.
- All reports will be handled in a manner which protects the privacy of the person(s) reporting to the extent possible.
- All reports will be initiated within 15 working days of receipt. Completion will depend on the severity and complexity of the investigation.
- All reports will be investigated by person(s) having a sufficient level of expertise/knowledge with regard to the issue presented by the call, and are without conflicting interests of a nature that could interfere with an objective investigation.
- Disciplinary and/or corrective action in response to substantiated allegations will be an integral part of the Institutional Compliance program.
- Those making reports in good faith shall not be retaliated against. However, intentional reports or false or malicious allegations will not be tolerated and may subject the caller to disciplinary actions.
- All members of the University Community are expected to cooperate fully in the investigation of potential violations of University policy and applicable rules, laws, or regulations when directed to do so by persons who have investigative authority.
You do not need to know the exact law, regulation or policy, or be certain a violation has occurred or will occur. If you are uncertain, the better course of action is to report. It is important that you provide enough information to allow your concerns to be adequately investigated and addressed.
UTRGV policy, UT System Board of Regents' Rules and Regulations, and state law prohibit retaliation against anyone who, in good faith, reports an instance of suspected non-compliance or participates in a compliance investigation.
