School of Accountancy
The School of Accountancy at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley offers students Bachelor, Master, and Ph.D. degrees in accounting from highly qualified faculty dedicated to student’s success. The education that students receive at UTRGV will prepare them for a variety of career opportunities: public accounting through the CPA Exam, management accounting in a private or public company, internal and external auditing, to name a few examples. Our graduates successfully work in many different organizations ranging from local CPA firms to major accounting firms across the nation, from government entities such as the Governmental Accounting Office to large public corporations.
Economics
The Department of Economics at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley promotes excellence in teaching, research and service. Our undergraduate degree programs of BBA and BA in Economics emphasize experiential learning and practical analytical tools required to compete in local, national and international labor markets. At the graduate level, the department provides courses to the MBA program and to the PhD program in Business Administration (Finance concentration). Our research in Economics advances theoretical and applied knowledge by largely (but not exclusively) examining questions on the economic and financial development of the U.S.-Mexico border region, Latin and North America, and the World. The department hosts seminars for our community on border economic development and provides reports on border business.
Finance
The Department of Economics and Finance at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley promotes excellence in teaching, research and service. We provide our undergraduate and graduate students a variety of degree programs, which emphasize experiential learning and practical analytical tools required to compete in local, national and international labor markets. Our research in both economics and finance advances theoretical and applied knowledge by largely (but not exclusively) taking into account issues related to the economic and the financial development of the U.S.-Mexico border region and Latin America. The department hosts a variety of programs and seminars for our community on financial literacy and border economic development and entrepreneurship.
Information Systems
The department of information systems offers cutting-edge curriculum and degree programs in information systems, quantitative methods, and business analytics at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. Our Bachelor of Business Administration degree (BBA) in Information Systems gives students computer skills in programming, database, networking, systems analysis, cybersecurity, data mining and project management, as well as proficiency in multiple business disciplines across the corporation. Our accelerated online Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) is a 100% online degree program that equips students with highly in-demand analytical skills such as Python and R programming, data mining, machine learning, data visualization, social media analytics, optimization, spreadsheet modeling, information security, and healthcare analytics that are critical for data-driven analytics and decision-making in modern organizations. Our department also provides the Information Systems concentration for the PhD in Business Administration degree, training high-quality researchers for academic positions in Information Systems and Analytics at institutions in the U.S. and around the world.
Management
Welcome to the Department of Management at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley! Our department is dedicated to provide high quality management education that prepares students to become leaders for the region, the state and the world. We provide excellent educational opportunities in our academic programs including our undergraduate degree (BBA) in Management with an optional concentration in either Human Resources Management or Sustainable Supply Chain Management. Our Ph.D. program in Business Administration with a concentration in Management is a growing and vibrant program with special faculty expertise in Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management, Strategic Management, Entrepreneurship, Operations Management, and International Management.
Marketing
The department of marketing is dedicated to providing marketing education that prepares students to become leaders for Texas and the world. We provide high quality educational opportunities in our academic programs including our undergraduate degree in Marketing with specialized certificates in Entertainment, Branding and Communication, Multicultural and Global Business, and Design and New Product Commercialization. Our American Marketing Association student chapter is very active and organizes an annual Marketing Week, a Fashion Show and the Helix Music Fest. Our Ph.D. program in Marketing has trained scholars who are now on the faculty of Florida State University, the University of Maine, Ohio University, St. Bonaventure, and other fine institutions.
