System of Competition

5 rounds, Swiss System, 30 minutes per game per player with 5 seconds of delay (G/30; d5)
Latest version of Swiss Sys will be used. Pairings created by this program are considered legal and will stand even if a pairing is not ideal, especially if pairings have been already posted. Current version is 11.3.

When individual scores are equal, the following order of tie-break systems will be used to designate individual awards:

  1. Modified Median
  2. Median
  3. Solkoff
  4. Sonneborn-Berger
  5. Cumulative
When team scores are equal, the following order of tie-break systems will be used to designate individual awards:
  1. Total Individual Median
  2. Total Solkoff
  3. Total Sonneborn-Berger
  4. Total Cumulative
Eligibility
  • Open to students who reside or attend high school in Hidalgo or Starr county
  • Current USCF membership is required https://new.uschess.org/join-us-chess
  • Current TCA membership is required https://texaschess.org/memberships ($3 "Junior Online" membership, valid for 1 year, is recommended, but $1.50 Regional Championship single pass is sufficient). Please contact Ms. Barbara Swafford tcapayment@gmail.com for additional clarifications.

USCF and TCA Memberships will not be processed by the organizers.

Entry Fee
  • $25 by March 15
  • $30 by March 17
  • $40 on March 18

Refunds by March 15; $5 refund charge.

Entries on March 18 will be permitted up to 30 minutes before the first round. Players that are not registered by the cutoff time shall be paired from Round 2 only (unless the Chief Tournament Director decides otherwise).
 
Awards
  • Trophies to: Top 5 individual / 3 team / 1 JV individual / 1 JV team
  • Participation medals for all students
Additional Information
  • Chess sets, clocks, notations, pencils, and pens will be provided.
  • Accommodation for participants with disabilities will be ensured.
  • Upon timely request, separate rooms in proximity to the playing venue will be available for rent.
  • Free parking.
